Why not take a moment to thank nature, the universe, and the almighty for all the free resources available, such as river water, beautiful landscapes, caring families, and every breath, etc.?
Gratitude extends to thanking someone for their help, support, services, or goods, especially when it’s not a part of a transaction. It’s important to be thankful for whatever good you have, and how you’ve overcome difficult situations when there seemed to be no hope. During times of despair, there’s a unique sense of comfort from the help we receive, right? Gratitude is a complex concept that we can’t easily dismiss. BUT, Why should we practice gratitude? Well, expressing gratitude offers a plethora of benefits.
Consider the following benefits: beyond the general idea, there are more intricate but immensely meaningful advantages. It’s widely recognized that practicing gratitude for an extended period engenders a feeling of warmth. Additionally, it diminishes feelings of unease and fosters stronger connections, while significantly improving overall well-being..
When you practice gratefulness, you have the opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate someone’s efforts, whether it’s directed at you personally or in a general sense. For instance, expressing gratitude to a younger child for lending their pencil can make them feel valued and important. This is what we refer to as recognition.
Scientifically speaking, the medial prefrontal cortex of the brain is linked to social reward, bonding, and moral judgment, and is activated by the feeling of gratitude. Additionally, studies have shown that maintaining a gratitude journal can help people feel more positive and emit good vibes.
Embracing a grateful mindset has been shown to have numerous positive effects. It can enhance physical health, foster new connections, and fortify existing relationships. In addition, practicing gratitude can diminish toxic emotions and reduce the likelihood of developing depression. It also improves the quality of sleep and academic performance. Furthermore, gratitude promotes empathy and diminishes aggression, leading to overall enhancement of mental well-being and a reduction in stress, as well as decreasing the risk of post-traumatic stress disorder and other traumas.
And the most wonderful part of all is that practicing gratitude boosts a person’s self-esteem while reducing social comparison. This is why it is said that gratitude makes sense of the past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. Wait, why isn’t it done if it’s so simple? And how should it be done if needed?
The answer lies in practicing simple daily habits like acknowledging the good deeds of others, recognizing their roles, expressing gratitude for both tangible and intangible benefits, and limiting interactions to just one per day. You can also keep a gratitude journal and take time to reflect on the good and the bad times.
Visual reminders and making vows to practice gratitude can be helpful. All that’s needed is to become more aware of one’s own thoughts and emotions, think creatively, and even consider one’s own feelings. These methods may sometimes seem tiring and boring, but it’s important to remember the benefits of gratitude and being thankful.
Just a quick reminder friends:
